Tonight, Saturday 2nd April 2011, Southside Community Council will hold a ’Film ‘n’ Fireworks’ evening in St. Patrick Square from 7.15pm-10.15pm. This is a free outdoor event to encourage the support from the community against the demolition of the former Odeon Cinema and we are delighted to be the major sponsor. We’ve created the grand finale to the evening in the form of a breathtaking fireworks display. This is going to be a unique spectacle. The event will start with some footage of the original cinema followed by an open air showing of ‘Local Hero’. The event will culminate with a fireworks display. The duration of the show will be short, sharp and spectacular. The total sponsorship value for this event over the last few months will topple £10,000.
We wanted to create something extra special for this event. As an Edinburgh based company we’re particularly passionate about showing our support. After the outdoor films have been shown in St Patrick Square, this ‘big bang’ culmination will bring the event to a memorable close. By condensing the fireworks into a shorter time there will be a maximum impact to reflect the passion and effort that the Southside Community Council and supporters have put into saving this threatened building.
Director Geoff Crow said “It’s an important cause for us to champion as we are a family orientated and community focused business. We liked the fact that it’s a community event – and our business is all about bringing people together. Rather than demolish the auditorium of this iconic building, it could be put to great use by creating a haven for the people of Edinburgh to come together and appreciate or learn about arts and cinema. This is what Southside Community Council is striving for and we back that.”
