For Christmas 2024, Argyle Street got a new name and a serious festive glow-up.
Stargyle Street became home to Glasgow’s North Star: an 80ft-long, 20ft-high immersive light tunnel designed to turn one of the city’s busiest streets into a destination in its own right.
THE BRIEF
As part of Glasgow Loves Christmas, we were challenged to create a large-scale festive installation that could welcome hundreds of thousands of local and international visitors throughout the Christmas period. It needed to look brilliant, invite interaction and stand up to more than a month in the middle of a very busy Glasgow city centre.
WHAT WE DID
Working to a tight lead time, our production team designed and built the bespoke structural frames while working with Glasgow Life and teams across Glasgow City Council to secure the licences, permissions and practical requirements needed for the installation.
Once on site, a five-day build transformed the concept into an 80ft immersive tunnel. Twinkly Pro Capsule Light Strings covered the structure, with bespoke programming creating both ambient sequences and the interactive shooting-star effect. At ground level, synchronised LED battens extended the movement through the space, while a custom soundscape added another dimension as the star raced overhead.
Fairy-light garlands and Glasgow Loves Christmas branding completed the look, with picket fencing integrated into the overall design to protect the installation without breaking the festive aesthetic. And because Christmas magic still needs a little engineering behind it, the entire Star could be monitored and controlled remotely, with CCTV installed for additional asset protection throughout its run.
THE RESULTS
A new Christmas landmark landed on Argyle Street. The finished installation combined structure, lighting, programming, sound and interaction to create an experience visitors could walk through, photograph and, with one press of a button, bring to life themselves.
