Glasgow were looking for a supplier to create a large-scale projection and lighting installations in the city centre in order to attract visitors and support the city’s economic and social recovery. One of the requirements was our ability to ensure the installations appealed to a wide range of age groups and generated high footfall from the Glasgow area and beyond.
Through a tender process, we were required to submit creative proposals with a range of event-led lighting options and special effects aligned with Glasgow’s vision for a winter of light, warmth, and connection, inclusive and sustainable practices, and a diverse range of events and experiences.
21CC Productions – Our 21CC Production team collaborated with Glasgow City Council as part of a tender process for both years. In 2020, this featured the spectacular illumination of Glasgow City Chambers. In 2021, this was extended to the illumination of Glasgow City Chambers, Bucks Head on Argyle Street and The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Our production team built, designed, programmed, and remotely-controlled the installations throughout the duration of December in both 2020 and 2021. The lighting was designed specifically to highlight the features of the building, by picking out vertical and horizontal lines, along with key architectural shapes, finishes and features, essentially creating impressive lighting scenes that played with textures, depth, and intensity of colour. We added beams on the roof and those brought the project to life and made the three installations simultaneously visible from across greater Glasgow and beyond, thus attracting people far and wide to come and see it, bringing people into the city centre.
A month long, multiple site (in 2021 only), series of installations illuminated the city centre of Glasgow for all to enjoy. This was a project that delivered on its aim to attract people to the city centre to boost the economy and recovery and firmly promoting the reputation of the city globally and highlighting Glasgow as a key Christmas destination.
