21CC GROUP CASE STUDY:

Wondrous Woods 2023

Fact Sheet

Our Services

GC Live brings Wondrous Woods to Gosford House. 21CC Group Production, Event & Design, and our newly acquired Funktioncreep have combined forces on this exciting venture, featuring the installation of feature lighting, bespoke projection, laser, and a soundscape. Creating a journey through the magnificent private and ancient woodland grounds of Gosford House!

The Brief

To reintroduce the sensational Wondrous Woods magical, illuminated adventure in its new home at the magnificent woods at  Gosford House in East Lothian. The ambition was to utilise 21CC Group’s full turn-key solution and in-house event sector supply chain services to deliver the event at its beautiful new location near Longniddry, which has featured in the hugely popular Outlander television series.

The various teams’ brief was to transform the grounds and, over 4 weeks – from October 27 to November 19, 2023 – and working as technical partners to designer and producer, GC Live, safely deliver an incredibly high-standard experience aiming to leave all guests spellbound.

What we did

21CC Events & Design, 21CC Productions and newly acquired Funktioncreep collaborated to transform the 1.5km woodland trail and winding paths of Gosford House into the mystical Wondrous Woods. 21CC Productions and Funktioncreep provided and designed a new and improved array of soundscapes, laser effects, holographic effects, projectors and lighting fixtures. The teams also worked on the technical design of the trail in terms of installations and power planning, with 21CC Events & Design overseeing the overall event management, venue sourcing and liaising, site planning, licensing, health & safety, stakeholder and supplier coordination, the redevelopment of the brand identity and website management for Wondrous Woods.

Wondrous Woods’ mascot Woody the Owl this year became a real-life character, and guests were able to enjoy being photographed with Woody himself. As part of the peripheral experience, a contractor was also engaged so that attendees could experience a wonderful meet-and-greet with real-life owls too.

Guests this year were also invited to relax and join Woody in the Hay Field at Woody’s Nest for a bite to eat and a drink from local suppliers and to browse in the Woody Shop.

A close partnership was forged with the chosen charity partner, Cash 4 Kids East Scotland, which resulted in a donation of over £2,500 from ticket sales at Wondrous Woods, raised by organisers GC Live.

As part of the Wondrous Woods event and sponsored by Edinburgh investment managers Walter Scott & Partners through the company’s Giving Group , a designated Relaxed  Night was also created (November 15) where the spectacle was specially adapted for those with additional support needs (ASN) including autism and other sensory processing disorders, offering subdued sound and lighting installations and culminating in the stunning sight of Gosford House illuminated in all its glory.

The Results

The magical woodland at Gosford House Estate was transformed into a magical mystical illuminated trail that attracted thousands of attendees who travelled far and wide to attend…

The Verdict

‘Wondrous Woods has allowed us to truly explore the potential of the beautiful grounds at Gosford. We have been amazed by the technical wizardry and the positive engagement from visitors has been truly heartening. We cannot wait to welcome the public back to see this magical experience grow.’

“Absolutely magical. The combination of lights and music was utterly breathtaking and very moving. Really well done. My 6-year-old was captivated by the Phoenix and the music. We stood there and watched it over and over. Then he watched the video I took over and over again too.”
